Note: Users should have pre-requisite understanding of what a Formula is/when it's required before viewing this RTD-specific resource. For a Dx5 Support resource on Formulas, check out this article: Definitions: Formula (Read Time: 5 mins).
Users with TTB-approved Formulas can build those in Dx5 to track Material/Formula usage.
To set up a new Dx5 Formula:
- Navigate to Operations > Setup
- Click the Setup Actions button in the upper right corner; choose "New Recipe/Formula"
- Enter a Name and Abbreviation to reference the new Dx5 Formula.
- Abbreviations = Maximum of 6 Characters.
- Abbreviations = Maximum of 6 Characters.
- Check the "Designate as Formula" option.
- Official Formula Name: The name or number of the TTB-approved Formula.
- Start ABV: the Starting ABV the Base liquid will be gauged at before applying the Formula.
- End ABV: the Ending ABV the Base liquid will be gauged at after applying the Formula's ingredients + water.
- Designate as Formula allows you to pre-set the Alcohol Content change of a Batch upon Dx5 Formula application. For example, if an approved Formula always changes your base spirit Batch from 95 ABV to 8 ABV after water + ingredients are added, setting the Starting/Ending ABVs will update Dx5 Batch Volume/ABV upon Formula application.
- Dx5 will require users' source Batches to be at exactly the Start ABV stated on the Formula before application if Designate as Formula is selected.

- Baseline Batch Volume refers to the starting Volume of spirit involved in this Formula. Example: if a Formula is approved based on a starting spirit Volume of 500 L, enter that as the Baseline Batch Volume.
- If Scale Recipe/Formula is selected, this Formula's materials will be scaled up or down automatically based on differences in the Batch Volume users are running the Formula against.
- Example: a Formula's Baseline Batch Volume of 500 L is established which requires 100lbs of material is being ran against a 250 L batch - Dx5 scales the Formula's Material application down to 50lbs automatically.

- Add Recipe/Formula Materials as appropriate and relevant to the Baseline Batch Volume.
- The below Formula is set up with the Materials/Material Amounts applied to a 500 L Baseline Batch Volume:
- Use "+Add Another Material" to add all required Materials to the Formula.
- If a Material is not available in the drop-down menu, navigate to Inventory > Overview and build the necessary Item using the steps in this resource: Inventory: Add New Raw Material (Read Time: 4 mins).

- Apply Batch Type Modifier can be selected to allow the Dx5 Formula to automatically update the Batch Type of the Batch that users are applying their Formula to.
- Example: My Formula calls for Material applications to NGS, which will change spirit identity from NGS to Grapefruit Vodka Fizz. By establishing a Starting and End Batch Type here, Dx5 will automatically update my Batch's Batch Type from "NGS" to "CC-Grapefruit Vodka Fizz" upon application of my Formula:

- Enter an optional Description, or note/comment, for the new Formula if desired.
- Click the orange Save Changes button to save the new Formula.
