This is especially useful in inventory value tracking where the base unit is too small to accrue real value. In these cases, the best practice is to increase the base unit size (i.e. from g to kg); users may still use the item in smaller amounts, but the price per unit becomes much more useful.
- Navigate to Inventory - Overview and to the inventory item
- Click the blue arrow to the right of the item, and click Edit
- In the dropdown provided, change the Unit to the appropriate choice. Note that these options will be limited to the same type of unit (weight, volume).
- Save the form, and double-check quantity on hand.
If you have a default unit cost saved for this item, you'll need to change the supplier cost per unit to reflect the price per updated unit.
